Clinical Psychology, MA
Marriage and Family Therapists and Professional Clinical Counselors are engaged people involved in real relationships that require commitment and genuine emotions in the midst of professional work. At Antioch University, you’ll join a community of students and faculty who are active, compassionate, and socially conscious. Offered as a low residency program with conveniently scheduled courses, we plan to increase access to training so graduates are prepared to meet needs in the community of which we are a part.
Addiction and Recovery Specialization
The Addiction and Recovery Specialization explores substance use and related disorders from a multidimensional perspective. Rather than looking at “addicts” or people struggling with addiction from an oversimplified, one-size-fits-all approach, students gain insight into the biological, psychological, socio-cultural-political, and systemic etiology of addiction along with a variety of approaches to treatment. Training includes the ability to thoroughly assess, conceptualize, diagnose, and develop comprehensive treatment plans, along with the skills required to deliver evidence-based, client-centered interventions with compassion and a deep understanding of the complexity of addiction and recovery.
Couple and Family Therapy, MA
Our CFT programs prepare students to become socially just couple and family therapists by integrating the principles of social justice and diversity throughout all courses and clinical work. The MA in CFT, Low Residency program is designed to prepare you to begin a career in couple and family therapy by providing conceptual and clinical skills, as well as professional development and socialization.
Clinical Mental Health Counseling, MA
Our CACREP-accredited program accepts students from all undergraduate degrees looking to learn how to make a positive impact on those who need help the most. The program prepares you to work as a professional counselor to promote mental health, well-being, and social justice for a diverse, multicultural, and global community.
Addictions Counseling
Addiction is, unfortunately, a common problem in today’s society. Dance Movement Therapy: Couple and Family Therapy, MA
As dance/movement therapists, we believe that a person’s lived bodily experience is central to the therapeutic process and that dancing is life-affirming. Relational bodily action is the primary agent of change. The DMT program presents both nonverbal and verbal approaches, enhanced by training in couples and family therapy. Students determine the methods that resonate with their professional identity as dance/movement therapists and best serve a diverse clientele.
School Counseling, MA
This counselor education program, with a specialty area in School Counseling, trains students in eight (8) core areas: professional counseling orientation and ethical practice, social and cultural diversity, human growth and development, career development, counseling, and helping relationships, group counseling and group work, assessment and testing, and research and program evaluation.

Antioch University’s low-residency MFA in Creative Writing program is devoted not only to the education of literary and dramatic artists but also to community engagement and the pursuit of social justice. Doctoral Degrees
Couple and Family Therapy, PhD
The Doctor of Philosophy in Marriage and Family Therapy (PhD in MFT) has a focus on Social Justice applications to marriage and family therapy, and prepares graduates for academic, leadership, supervision, and research careers. There is considerable focus on research training in this doctoral degree, and as a degree in MFT, there is also a clinical training component. In everything we do, we emphasize principles of social justice, and our students learn about ways to apply social justice principles in research, teaching and supervision, and clinical work.
Counselor Education and Supervision, PhD
The low residency PhD program in Counselor Education and Supervision (CES) is a 72-credit doctoral degree program designed for counselors who wish to enhance their professional competencies in research and evaluation, supervision, teaching, leadership/advocacy, and counseling. As a low residency program, this PhD is primarily composed of online coursework with two four-day residencies. Now accredited by the Council for Accreditation of Counseling Related Education Programs (CACREP), this degree is designed to prepare doctoral students for advanced competency in, a) graduate-level teaching and counselor training, b) research and contributing new knowledge to the field, c) counseling supervision, d) leadership and advocacy, and e) multicultural sensitive counseling practice.
Educational & Professional Practice, EdD
The Doctor of Education in Educational and Professional Practice is intended for professionals who use educational practices in the service of social, economic, and environmental justice in schools and beyond. The program is designed with working adults in mind. Classes are offered online, with a four-day, face-to-face residency each July on one of our campuses. A new cohort will enter the program each summer term, and if you take two courses each term, you should be able to complete the degree in three years. Each semester is launched with a virtual Zoom residency on the first Saturday of each term.
